Tooth pain is an indication that something is wrong with your teeth. When you experience tooth pain, it is important to contact a trusted, experienced dentist for a comprehensive exam. At Lassiter Family Dentistry in Kingsland, GA, Dr. James Lassiter offers dental services that may treat any underlying causes of tooth pain. Most of the time, tooth pain is caused by a developing cavity. Tooth decay is the most common contributor to pain in your teeth.
If tooth decay is caught early, Dr. Lassiter may be able to treat it with a dental filling. In advanced stages of tooth decay, patients may need a root canal or tooth extraction. We usually recommend a tooth extraction as a last resort. We will work with you to eliminate tooth decay and restore health back to your smile.

What’s the Best Tooth Filling for Me?
There are basically three types of dental fillings we can provide: bonded composite resin “white” fillings, porcelain inlays and onlays, and cast-gold fillings. Your dentist, Dr. James Lassiter, will evaluate your condition and help you choose which is best for you. A filling should remain in place for many years, protecting your teeth without you ever noticing it’s there.
Dental fillings can be used to:
- Repair damage caused by tooth decay
- Replace tooth structure that has chipped or broken off
- Improve the appearance of a defect on the surface of a tooth
The most common type of dental filling patients receive in our office are composite resin “white” fillings. White dental fillings have replaced the outdated silver-colored amalgam fillings because of the safer materials used, affordability, and appearance.
The process to place a composite white filling takes one visit. Dr. Lassiter will lightly abrade the tooth’s surface and smooth off any rough edges. Next, a bio-compatible resin will be applied to the tooth and sculpted into form. A special light is used to harden the resin.
For gold fillings or porcelain inlays/onlays, the process is the same, except an impression of your cavity will be made to aid in the fabrication process. The restoration will be fabricated on-site in our dental laboratory. Once it’s complete, it will be placed on the tooth and bonded into place. This process can take two visits: the first visit for measuring and taking impressions, and the second for permanent placement.
